1940s Vintage Taupe Straw Riding Style Tilt Topper Hat by Marche
An elegant and atmospheric piece of mid-century millinery, this 1940s vintage straw riding hat is crafted from refined taupe straw and designed to sit at a chic angle as a classic tilt topper. The hat is trimmed with matching taupe petersham ribbon and finished with original net veiling, giving it a sophisticated silhouette rooted in wartime and post-war style.
Please note: the veiling is extremely fragile and brittle and has begun to break down with age. It has been intentionally left intact, as it now creates a delicate fringe-like effect that adds unique texture and undeniable vintage charm. Inside, a contrasting orange petersham ribbon hat band provides a surprising pop of color and a lovely finishing detail.
Perfect for collectors of 1940s hats, historical costuming, photo styling, or display, this riding hat embodies timeless elegance and authentic age.
- Exterior Dimensions: 10.5"x 8"
- Crown Interior Dimensions: 8.25"x 5"
- Crown Height: 1.5"
- Brim Width: 2.25" at widest point.
- Interior Circumference: 20.75"
- Materials: Straw, veiling, petersham ribbon.
- Maker: Marche, a New York Creation.
Condition: Very good vintage condition. I would label the straw hat itself as excellent, but the veiling is incredible brittle and shattering. I've left it as I like the sort of fringe effect it gives, but it will continue to break and tear. There is a water mark on the petersham ribbon, a two light spots on the straw on the top of the hat. Please view the photos carefully.
