The Harper Skirt is named for Pulitzer Prize-winning author, Harper Lee. She is singularly known for her work, To Kill a Mockingbird, and her controversial first draft of it, Go Set a Watchman. Like her contemporary, Shirley Jackson, she was considered a loner and individualist who spent her time focused on writing. She was a significant contributor to Truman Capote’s In Cold Blood; she and Capote had a lifelong friendship beginning during their childhood. While she did not receive recognition for her efforts on the book, Capote did dedicate the novel to her and his longtime partner.
